Uses and transformations of the category of vulnerability in the work of Judith Butler

The presence of vulnerability as a problem in the work of the American philosopher Judith Butler begins to be seen with major recurrence in the beginnings of the current century, after a series of violents acts happened in the United States of America and the world. These events uncover, for the author, the precariousness of bodies, exposed to loss and damage.
This article’s intention is, first, to show the centrality that the category of vulnerability has in the work of Judith Butler, according to the fact that it allows her to think the political present time; and, second, to argue that, even though the category of vulnerability between the years 2004 and 2015 maintains a reference to the exposure of all bodies, it takes a bigger tenor towards resistance and activism in the text Notes toward a performative theory of assembly.
