Abstract

The Black Notebooks constitute a unique piece of Heidegger’s work: they contain a number of aspects of his life which had not been accesible to public opinion until the present time. The intimate tone of his style allows for, among other things, the acknowledgement of mistakes, and in particular those made in connection with the nazi regime. The interpretation of these texts in a culture which is in many ways preudo-democratic (Adorno) demands for a deep clarification of the definition of the authoritarian personality, in the sense of prolegomena for the understanding of what “political” means in Heidegger, in particular due to the fact that there are, in Heidegger´s thinking, clearly antifascist elements coexisting with open adherence to the nazi regime.
